The top 10 Michigan football games I attended. (Sorry for the formatting, I'm having some trouble with the html)
1. Michigan 26 - Notre Dame 24, September 10, 1994
2. Michigan 23 - Washington 6, January 1, 1981
Okay, I don't actually remember the game, but I was there. Bo wins his first Rose Bowl behind Anthony Carter, Ali Haji-Sheikh, Stan (Braylon's father) Edward, and Butch (Troy's father) Woolfolk and an awesome defense. That game (along with the 1989 and 1993 Rose Bowls) left me wanting nothing more than to play Hawaiian War Chant with my hat on backwards some day. I never thought I would get the chance until...
3. Michigan 20 - Ohio State 14, November 22, 1997
Captain Jon Jansen leads the offense while Sword, Swett, Steele, Gold, Ray and company play stifling D. Oh, and Woodson does everything as the Wolverines earn their way back to California. Of course, not every team that enters this game undefeated stays that way...
4 & 5. Michigan 31 - Ohio State 23, November 25, 1995 and Michigan 13 - Ohio State 9, November 23, 1996.
Ohio State enters the game with a perfect record, but loses to Michigan, giving up 313 yards to Tshimanga Biakabutuka.
Ohio State enters the game with a perfect record, and loses to Michigan for the second straight year.
Rivalries are great, but so is weather...
6. Michigan 18 - Virginia 17, August 26, 1995
Temperatures in the 90s with high humidity left us feeling like we'd suffered heat stroke, but Scott Dreisbach had just enough to hit Mercury Hayes on a fade to the corner of the endzone as time expired for the Wolverine victory. This game was the first for Lloyd Carr as head coach, and the comeback from 17-0 in the fourth quarter is one of the greatest in team history.
7. Michigan 5 - Purdue 0, November 11, 1995
Less than three months later it was 32 degrees with driving sleet all game. Purdue netted 5 first downs, and I think that I'm still cold from that day.
8. Michigan 25 - Penn State 22, October 15, 2005
I don't remember anything other than Henne's pass to Manningham as time expired, but isn't that enough?
9. Michigan 22 - USC 14, January 2, 1989
Leroy Hoard once said "If you need two yards, I'll get you three. If you need five yards, I'll get you three." But on this day he gave Michigan 142 and a rare Rose Bowl win over USC.
10. Michigan 21 - Washington State 16, January 1, 1998.
Michigan wins the last real Rose Bowl, and caps off an undefeated season. I couldn't actually see the game from the back of the band, so I watched the entire thing on the jumbotron. Still the happiest day of my life.
Hope this brings back some fond memories for some of you too. Go Blue, beat the Utes.
